In order to complete the dissertation, I knew that I would need to have specific blocks of time set aside for that purpose. Tuesday was to be my "dissertation day" each week, and Tuesday the 11th of September was scheduled to be the first of those. There were other things going on in the world that day, as it turned out, and it would have been easy for me to set aside my writing under those circumstances.

However, I was determined to be disciplined about the work that was before me, and so I put my hand to the plow and didn't look back.

Those video images of airplanes and towers that everyone else saw over and over again, I never did see until a year or two later on DVD. I don't remember how many pages I actually managed to write onbut I spent all day working on the task, and I really never did let up the pace until I had finished what I started.

It was a pretty grueling year, actually, and I'm amazed that my family and I survived the ordeal. It's been a while, thankfully, maybe even a year now, since anyone has asked me whether I "ever managed to finish" my doctorate. Yeah, that was back in November ofwhen I successfully defended the dissertation and was declared a doctor of philosophy.

I was asked again, earlier this week, if I was "still in South Bend. There are a handful of people out there who have actually read my dissertation, and at least a couple others who read enough of it to quote me out of context.

What does meet mean in liturgy where it says it is MEET and right so to do

Mostly it seems to be cited as an example of absurd length, which is more hurtful than anyone seems to realize or intend I am surebut I am grateful to those who have appreciateed the work that went into it. There was a point, back in November ofwhen I was ready to throw in the towel altogether. Being a full-time pastor with a growing family, and having already attempted two proposals that didn't end up working, I was utterly burned out, weary and disheartened. Is this part of the Service important?

It is the most important act in the whole Service, because in it takes place the closest communion between Christ and His people. The believer now reaches the loftiest summit of all worship.

He is as near heaven as he can be in this life.

Preface (liturgy)

What takes place in the Distribution? The body and blood of Christ are given to the communicants with the bread and wine. What is the purpose of the words used at the Distribution? The minister thereby calls to the mind of each communicant: That he is now receiving Christ's body and blood; That this body and blood were given for his redemption; That the Gospel promise of forgiveness is now applied. How does the Minister dismiss the communicants from the altar?

The Distribution closes as it began, with a benediction. This blessing also ends the Administration. What is the significance of this benediction? It is an assurance that the blessed Lord, who has just imparted Himself to His people, will strengthen and preserve the faith with which they received the Sacrament, and without which it would become not a blessing but a curse.

If it should happen that the bread and wine on the altar be spent before all have communed, what shall be done? If the consecrated Bread or Wine be spent before all have communed, the Minister shall consecrate more, saying aloud so much of the Words of Institution as pertains to the element to be consecrated. What is the third part of the Holy Supper?

The Prayer of Thanksgiving. What is the general purpose of the Post Communion? To express our grateful joy for the heavenly food received in the Holy Supper. It is therefore unseemly to leave the House of God, as is frequently done, before offering this Thanksgiving. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: What is the Nunc Dimittis? It is a hymn of joyful thanksgiving for the salvation manifested and bestowed in Christ Jesus. It was first used by the aged Simeon when he saw the infant Saviour in the Temple Luke 2: It derives its name from the first words of the Latin version.

What is the significance of the Nunc Dimittis here? It is the closing hymn of the Communion and accords with the practice of our Lord Matt. That for which the believer has come into the Sanctuary has been received in all its fullness, and he now feels himself at peace with God and declares his readiness to depart. And His mercy endureth for ever. How is the Prayer of Thanksgiving introduced? By the Versicle and Response, taken from the opening verses of Psalms, and What is the significance of this Versicle?

It is a bidding to the people to unite in the Prayer of Thanksgiving which follows. What is the purpose of the Prayer of Thanksgiving? Just as we offer thanks after meat, we here express our gratitude to God for the refreshment we have experienced by partaking of His heavenly food.

We then pray, that this food may enable us to have a right faith toward God and an ardent love toward our fellow men. The Benedicamus "The Lord be with you.

And with thy spirit. Bless we the Lord.

Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For Thou only art holy; Thou only art the Lord. Placed in our divine service, we have just received the gift of forgiveness and rejoice with the angels for the peace of God and his gracious good will that has been bestowed in our life.

The Divine Service, Explained

It is always linked to the incarnate Christ. The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. They are found in the earliest Christian liturgies. It will occur three times in the Divine Service of the Sacrament: Prior to the consecration of elements for communion. Just prior to conveying the closing blessing of the Lord. It gathers the needs of the Church and the opening of the service into one thought to present it to the Lord in prayer.

The Minister does not choose what topic, lesson or theme he would like to read about. He is self-disciplined in this task by the use of the pericopes which list the readings for the entire church year. For this reason you do not see a flow from the Old Testament reading to the Epistle reading. Is more doctrinal, but is usually a practical exhortation.

Could be described as the Law before the Gospel. As the Gradual was sung, the Minister would move down the steps of the Altar to the people, just as the Gospel Lessons, next to be read, would relate how Christ stepped down from heaven to come to his people. Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.

Salutary | Definition of Salutary by Merriam-Webster

The Church gives answer: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. He suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father; And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.
